Texas Vs. California: Which Tech Hub Wins?

Is Silicon Valley over? Texas, Florida and New York have all been touted as Silicon Valley's replacement - so who will win? We looked at tech talent in four different hubs in the US - New York, Texas, California and Florida to see how happy they are at work and what they’re looking for.

Tech professionals find their job on LinkedIn

So how do you find them?

Make sure you’re treating your people right

US tech professionals are 50% more likely than the average person to avoid buying from a company that treats their employees badly, let alone work there.

Build your touchpoints

Then start building those touchpoints, putting top talent in contact with your employer brand. Be careful how. There’s a big variation in where techies spend their time online. A tech pro in New York or Florida spends twice as much time on Instagram as one in Texas, who is much more likely to be on TikTok instead.

Target your messaging

There's huge variation depending on where you're looking at. For example, Californian tech pros are 50% more likely to value structure (pay, benefits and reward) than those in other geographies. But they're only half as likely to value connection - finding people and friends at work. New Yorkers are much more likely to value purpose and mindset - opportunities to learn and grow - than the other hubs we looked at.

But - as with everything - there’s even more variation. This is just four out of fifty states, and these numbers change with gender, salary, experience and more.

So if you want to attract top tech talent, you’re going to need to get smarter. Or rather… wiser. Get smarter about finding talent.
